Kirby Cane & Ellingham PC update

<<Tidings, February 2019>>

The first parish council meeting of 2019, on Monday, 14th JANUARY, was well-attended and as usual covered a variety of subjects, including issues relating to the allotments, the adoption of the budget for 2019/20 and the request of the precept from South Norfolk Council, and the council’s ongoing aim to alleviate parking problems at Ellingham School. Regarding this last matter, councillors were disappointed by a potential set-back, but were determined to continue to pursue improved parking for both the school and the play area.

Councillors were also pleased that Geldeston Parish Council had agreed to add Kirby Cane & Ellingham to their application for 50/50 funding from Norfolk County Council so that the councils can share a traffic calming road sign – this will help to reinforce speed limits within the village, and in particular on Mill Road.

Parish and district council elections (2nd May 2019)

There are nine seats on your parish council, and any qualifying person over the age of 18 is free to seek nomination for election to one of these seats. The qualifying criteria are available in various locations, but I have also put them on the parish council’s website, which you can access using the following link – .

Please note that completed nomination forms for the May election must be received by the Electoral Registration Office at South Norfolk Council no later than 4pm on Wednesday, 3rd April, and although at the time of writing nomination forms were not yet available from the Electoral Commission, we are assured that these should be available by early February.

I will endeavour to add more information to the parish council website – including, hopefully, a link to the nomination form – as and when it becomes available.

If you have any questions about becoming a parish councillor, or indeed about any aspect of the parish council’s business, do please let me know, or approach any of your parish councillors.

Next parish council meeting – Monday, 18th March, 7.30 pm.

Please note that the Annual Parish Meeting (in the main hall of the Memorial Hall) will be held on Monday, 1st April, and then the Annual Parish Council Meeting will be held on Monday, 13th May (meetings take place in the back room of the Memorial Hall unless otherwise stated).
