Monte Cassino, February-May 1944

<<Tidings, April 2019>>

royal_british_legion_logo (colour)This year we remember the heroism and courage of the 200,000 Allied and Commonwealth forces who came from all corners of the globe to fight in the battles of Monte Cassino (January-May 1944). Their service and sacrifice secured freedom and democracy in Italy and, prevented the German army transferring more fighting forces to France where the D-Day landings would take place that June.

Members of our Loddon & District with Haddiscoe branch will travel to Staffordshire on Saturday, 11 May, so that Charlie Coleman, a veteran and survivor of Monte Cassino, can take part in the 75th anniversary commemorative events at the National Arboretum.

The next branch meetings of the British Legion are on Mondays, 15 April and 20 May, at 7.30 pm, as usual, in the King’s Head, Loddon.
