Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Ever noticed the little triangles on some pieces of plastic? With a number in the middle? They can be recycled. Throw unmarked plastic into your black bin; from now on put the plastic with a triangle in the green bin — “Every little helps”.

Three of our villages have bottle banks. They earn the parish councils a small but useful grant each year. Geldeston got theirs later than Gillingham or Kirby Cane & Ellingham. On the other hand, for 14 years we have had a magnificent Community Composting Scheme directed by Master Composter Gloria Barker. Perhaps the scheme will revive this year. In any case there is a simpler way we can all make excellent compost.

Don’t burn the dead leaves. Put them in a bin or a big old sandbag like builders use. Now all you have to do is wait, 3-4 years. By then the leaves will have turned into a wonderful compost. It works (I’ve tried it)!
